Mitología y magia óptica: sobre la relación entre retrato, espejo y escritura en la poesía de Góngora

    Get PDF
This is shown mainly in the continuity of older traditions belonging to the magic of image, in which the idea of "vivification" or "animation" of images is related in multiple cases to the mythical figures of the demiurge-artists, Prometheus and Pygmalion. Within Baroque Spanish Literature, Luis de Góngora's lyric poetry is that in which the mention of figurations of old mythology remarkably connects with an ample reflection on historical-cultural and mediatic processes of transformation, which also affect the literary practices and the author's lyric processes of representation. Within the frame of an exemplary reading of the celebratory poem "Hurtas mi vulto", this article intends to determine to what extent a specifically literary form of myth reception is outlined in the sonnet, by means of which the text belongs to the historical horizon of the arousing of "visual culture" and of the Early Modern Age optical magic.Centro de Estudios de Teoría y Crítica Literari

We present new proper motion and parallax measurements obtained with the European VLBI Network (EVN) at 5GHz for the three isolated pulsars B1929+10, B2020+28, and B2021+51. For B1929+10 we combined our data with earlier VLBI measurements and confirm the robustness of the astrometric parameters of this pulsar. For pulsars B2020+28 and B2021+51 our observations indicate that both stars are almost a factor of two closer to the solar system than previously thought, placing them at a distance of 1.39-0.06+0.05 and 1.25-0.17+ 0.14kpc. Using our new astrometry, we simulated the orbits of all three pulsars in the Galactic potential with the aim to confirm or reject previously proposed birth locations. Our observations ultimately rule out a claimed binary origin of B1929+10 and the runaway star ζ Ophiuchi in Upper Scorpius. A putative common binary origin of B2020+28 and B2021+51 in the Cygnus Superbubble is also very unlikely

The globular cluster (GC) M15 (NGC 7078) is host to at least eight pulsars and two low mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), one of which is also visible in the radio regime. Here we present the results of a multi-epoch global very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) campaign aiming at i) measuring the proper motion of the known compact radio sources; ii) finding and classifying thus far undetected compact radio sources in the GC; and iii) detecting a signature of the putative intermediate mass black hole (IMBH) proposed to reside at the core of M15. We measure the sky motion in right ascension (µa) and declination (µd) of the pulsars M15A and M15C and of the LMXB AC211 to be (µa,µd)M15A = (-0.54 ± 0.14,-4.33 ± 0.25) mas yr-1, (µa,µd)M15C = (-0.75 ± 0.09,-3.52 ± 0.13) mas yr-1, and (µa, µd)AC211 = (-0.46 ± 0.08,-4.31 ± 0.20) mas yr-1, respectively. Based on these measurements we estimate the global proper motion of M15 to be (µa, µd) = (-0.58 ± 0.18,-4.05 ± 0.34) mas yr -1. We detect two previously known but unclassified compact sources within our field of view. Our observations indicate that one them is of extragalactic origin while the other one is a foreground source, quite likely an LMXB. The double neutron star system M15C became fainter during the observations, disappeared for one year and is now observable again-an effect possibly caused by geodetic precession. The LMXB AC211 shows a double lobed structure in one of the observations indicative of an outburst during this campaign. With the inclusion of the last two of a total of seven observations we confirm the upper mass limit for a putative IMBH to be M•< 500 M·. © 2014 ESO

Empathy and associated influencing factors in occupational therapy students: A cross-sectional study

    Get PDF
INTRODUCTION: Empathy, often described as the comprehension of another person's state of mind, enables one to appreciate social environments and anticipate others' behaviour. In occupational therapy, the therapeutic use of self, which is grounded in empathy, is commonly considered essential, as it enables therapists to manage a therapeutic relationship with clients. However, high caseloads, stressors and pressure to perform often impact empathy levels. This study aimed to determine the empathy levels of undergraduate occupational therapy students, as well as factors affecting empathy levels METHOD: A quantitative approach was used, with an observational, cross-sectional study methodology, employing an electronic survey consisting of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) and a questionnaire developed by the researchers RESULTS: In total, 112 (response rate 70.4%) students participated in the study. Overall, the students had a satisfactory level of empathy. Of concern, however, was the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the lack of clinical fieldwork experience, which possibly contributed to the lower empathy levels observed among second-and third-year students CONCLUSION: From the findings, it is suggested that more attention should be given to empathy, as it plays an integral role in practice with clients, as well as in the training of occupational therapy students Implications for practice The findings suggest the opportunity for interventions and support systems that can help students manage high caseloads, stressors, and performance pressures, while also fostering and maintaining empathy. Implementing strategies such as stress management programs, mindfulness training, and self-care initiatives can help mitigate the negative impact on empathy levels and promote the development of empathetic skills in future occupational therapists. The research study's results have implications for the professional practice of occupational therapy. It emphasizes the need for ongoing education and training programs that focus on empathy development and maintenance throughout a therapist's career. By providing therapists with the tools, resources, and support to sustain their empathy levels in challenging work environments, the study suggests that the quality of care provided to clients can be enhanced, leading to better therapeutic outcomes and overall client satisfaction. Organizational changes within healthcare settings may be necessary to address workload issues and create a supportive environment that nurtures empathy among occupational therapy professionals

Kramer K, Carrier M, Heyder JC, Hochkirchen B. Vergleichen und Erzählen. Zur Verflechtung zweier Kulturtechniken. Praktiken des Vergleichens. Working Paper des SFB 1288. Vol 4 aktual. und erg. Version. The working paper focuses on the connection between practices of comparing and narrating from a systematic and historical perspective. On the one hand, it tackles the question of how, and against which backdrop of theoretical assumptions, we can postulate convergences, entanglements, and interrelations between practices of comparing and narrating. The main hypothesis is that both practices can be understood as cultural techniques. They form extensive relational networks, which are not only characterized by language and image related representational processes, but first and foremost by complex dynamics linking symbolic representation, social actors, and material artefacts. The systematic perspective also comprises the question of how the approaches of cultural techniques analysis and practice theory can be related to each other. On the other hand, both the interrelation between practices of comparing and narrating as well as the complex operational chains will be outlined on the basis of four historical case studies. Those studies involve subjects such as modern history of science, European travel literature, comparisons in image-text-object hybrids as well as curatorial practices in exhibitions.**Ergänzender Hinweis zu den Creative Commons Lizenzen**"Creative Commons license terms for re-use do not apply to any content (such as graphs, figures, photos, excerpts, etc.) not original to the Open Access publication and further permission may be required from the rights holder. The dimensionality of stability depends on disturbance type

    Get PDF
International audienceEcosystems respond in various ways to disturbances. Quantifying ecological stability therefore requires inspecting multiple stability properties, such as resistance, recovery, persistence and invariability. Correlations among these properties can reduce the dimensionality of stability, simplifying the study of environmental effects on ecosystems. A key question is how the kind of disturbance affects these correlations. We here investigated the effect of three disturbance types (random, species-specific, local) applied at four intensity levels, on the dimensionality of stability at the population and community level. We used previously parameterized models that represent five natural communities, varying in species richness and the number of trophic levels. We found that disturbance type but not intensity affected the dimensionality of stability and only at the population level. The dimensionality of stability also varied greatly among species and communities. Therefore, studying stability cannot be simplified to using a single metric and multi-dimensionalassessments are still to be recommended
